Cheryl Cole Named As X Factor Judge

Cheryl Cole has been confirmed as the next judge of ITV's The X Factor.

Cole was favourite to get the job as Sharon Osbourne's replacement, after it was revealed she was in the running, along with ex-Spice Girl Mel B and former singer Charlotte Church.

Speaking about her new position as judge, Cole said : "I'm so excited to be part of such a great show and although it's scary joining a huge programme like The X Factor, it's a massive honour to be following in the footsteps of Sharon Osbourne."

"The rest of the girls have said they're right behind me, which is really important for me as it will be weird to be on the other side of the fence this time. So whilst we get started on the next album, it will be brilliant to be a judge on The X Factor."

Despite rumours that Girls Aloud are splitting, the group continues to deny it. However, Cole's new job on the show along with bandmate Sarah Harding's forthcoming solo release, question the hit girl group's stability.

Cheryl will join fellow judges Simon Cowell, Louis Walsh and Danni Minogue, when the next series kicks off later this year.
